The Mining Recruitment Group has been retained by a global EPCM firm to recruit a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead their Mining and Water design teams to complete a variety of tailings dam design, analysis, and construction for all phases of the mine life cycles. This role will oversee geotechnical investigation, foundation design, design and assessment of mine waste management (including traditional and alternative deposition technologies) and water management facilities, hazard and risk assessments, monitoring and instrumentation, mine planning and financial evaluations, construction management and quality assurance, specialist and expert opinions for technical related issues in the US and internationally.

This includes feasibility, strategic environmental approvals and design; regulatory and social studies; project evaluation and planning; engineering, procurement and construction management; engineering for mine infrastructure; mining operations; and closure, reclamation and rehabilitation.

The position can be located in Greenwood Village, CO, Salt Lake City, UT or Tucson, AZ office

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, directs, and supervises all operations included in a large, complex project or several moderately sized projects with greater risk and complexity, and significant financial impact
  • Resolves complex issues
  • Provide direction to and mentoring to other technical staff in completing project tasks
  • Performs independent technical reviews of engineering reports and designs
  • Acts as primary point of contact with client and has full responsibility for project delivery
  • Competent to serve as Engineer-of-Record on design and design-build projects
  • May be responsible for Project teams that include 10 or more members often representing multiple business lines, working in remote locations and including a subcontractor(s)
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the engineering project, focusing on the unique or controversial problems
  • Regularly develop and evaluate project plans
  • Provide advice and consultation to client on engineering matters, including compliance with government laws and regulations
  • Work with clients to provide long-term solutions
  • Project leadership in the areas of design, analysis, and construction on various Tailings Dams and Mining projects

Develop project proposals and work with business leader on overall strategy to grow Mining practice

 

*Minimum Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited institution
  • 15+ years of railings, dams and mining experience including project management experience
  • Professional Engineering License required
  • Must have strong technical progression within geotechnical engineering
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility and flexibility
  • Experience in technical leadership within the area of geotechnical involvement for mining projects including full life cycle for tailings management and dam design
  • Experience with and ability to make informed decisions regarding drilling, field investigations, laboratory testing, advanced material characterization, seepage analysis, slope stability analysis, deformation analysis and site closure design and construction
  • Experience managing and working with a multi-discipline team
  • Must be a resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to travel and work with the design team in Denver (if not located here) and to travel to client sites in the US and internationally
  • Must have experience in client service and business development
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to support marketing effort in pursuing work on mining infrastructure projects
  • Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited institution
  • 20+ years of progressive experience within the field
