The Mining Recruitment Group has been retained to identify and secure an experienced Plant Metallurgical Superintendent/Technical Advisor to join our Client, a small yet profitable gold producer and process plant in the Dominican Republic.

The Incumbent will work closely with the Dominican national operational team to ensure safe day-to-day operation of the plant according to the approved procedures and control parameters. The position is almost entirely field based and works closely with the Superintendent – Process Plant to identify and promptly rectify or escalate any issues. It is expected that the Superintendent – Technical Advisor has extensive practical experience in process plant operation and maintenance and has the skills to mentor at all levels of the operational team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work with the Superintendent – Process Plant to hold plant Supervisors and Operators accountable for housekeeping, safe operating practices and control of the plant in-line with the approved strategy;
  • Maintain an awareness of personnel, safety or operational concerns within the processing areas and where necessary escalate issues to management to resolve;
  • Maintain a safe work environment through hazard reporting & correction;
  • Through the Administrator – Process Plant develop and maintain process plant procedures, forms and checklists in both Spanish and English;
  • Ensure that all procedures reflect best safe operating practices and where required propose changes;
  • Ensure that the entire workforce is effectively trained in the most recent issued procedures;
  • Complete daily audits of plant operating practices to ensure that activity is consistent with the approved procedures;
  • Assisting in plant inspections to ensure that cyclones, screens, pumps and associated equipment are maintained to a high standard;
  • Provide field based training and mentoring to the Operators and Supervisors;
  • Provide field support for technical troubleshooting;
  • Provide direct supervision of non-routine tasks / projects to ensure safe and timely implementation;
  • Assist the Superintendent – Process Plant in scheduled maintenance outage planning and execution;
  • Provide coverage for the Manager – Process Plant and Superintendent – Process Plant where necessary.

Requirements:

  • Spanish / English fluency – must be fully bilingual;
  • Experience as a Production Superintendent or Production Metallurgist would be highly regarded;
  • A degree in Mineral / Chemical Engineer or similar would be beneficial;
  • A solid practical understanding of process operation and maintenance;
  • Experience working in the field with operators, supervisors and maintenance technicians;
  • A hands-on attitude;
  • Experience training and mentoring;
  • Experience developing and implementing operating procedures;
  • Over 10 years’ experience in mineral processing, ideally in both established and recently commissioned operations;
  • Extensive experience in froth flotation and CIL;
  • Exposure to expatriate based roles.

As it is a small, yet profitable operation, the role would appeal to a proven leader that has “cut their teeth” with emerging companies as opposed to large cap miners as the Incumbent will be required to think on their feet and troubleshoot without large ingrained systems/safety nets in place.
