The Mining Recruitment Group is a boutique executive search firm focused exclusively on the unique requirements of the mining industry.

We have been retained to identify an experienced General Manager to oversee all operations on at our Client’s flagship project in South America. The Incumbent will need to speak fluent Spanish and the position requires full time residency near the project.

Working closely with site management team, the GM will be responsible for directing all activities over the operations including safety, processing, environmental, and administrative functions. The successful candidate will be accountable for the financial success of the operation through analysis, budgeting and planning activities to ensure annual objectives are delivered to drive short and long-term financial performance through life of mine.

The ideal applicant will have:

  1. Solid Management track record overseeing small to mid sized operations within the precious metals space. Background with CIL/Flotation would be an asset.
  • 10+ years of mining industry experience working in challenging and difficult mining environments
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in senior mining leadership roles on a  very large scale open pit mining projects of similar type and capacity as this project including proven track record of mining project restructuring
  • A background working/operating in Latin America and be able to lead diverse teams in both Spanish & English
  • Able to deal with ambiguity and technical complexity
  • Superior relationship management and partnership building skills
  • A demonstrated leader in culture change with a proven track record in sustainable change leadership
  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidiscipline environments
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large teams
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong financial skills (analysis, budgeting, planning).


The ideal Incumbent will be a Spanish speaker who can take control of the Operation and drive the various department managers to perform to set expectations. The successful candidate will have an extensive track record overseeing plant operations with an eye towards process optimization within the Gold sector in addition to being a proven leader that can motivate while holding their workforce accountable.

The role would appeal to a proven leader that has “cut their teeth” with emerging companies as opposed to large cap miners as the Incumbent will be required to think on their feet and troubleshoot without large ingrained systems/safety nets in place.

Though the position requires a Spanish speaker, as all of the key direct reports speak fluent English, we are after experience/leadership skills first and Spanish skills second. Expats are encouraged and relocation assistance will be provided.
