Director, Project Evaluations- Geology

We have been retained by one of the foremost names in mining finance and asset management to lead the search to identify a Director, Project Evaluations- Geology, to join their team in either of their Vancouver or Toronto offices.

Our client is looking for a business-minded Geologist with 10-14 years of exploration experience to join them in an effort to generate new business opportunities and aid in initial project due diligence. They’re looking for someone that brings a well-rounded background in exploration, with significant exposure to the gold space and that has seen a large variety of projects throughout the globe.  They’re after someone that is well-versed in both the commercial aspects of exploration, and the technical aspects of new business development.

The Incumbent will have a mix of experience gleaned from working with both major mining companies (with a preference given to those with exposure to both precious and base metals operations) in addition to the junior exploration realm.  The ideal applicant will use their background in exploration and a working knowledge of mining methods, metallurgy and processing to focus on the “big picture” with respect to generating new opportunities for investment.

The successful applicant will have experience dealing with senior management of junior mining companies and be an excellent communicator.  As a registered P.GEO, the Incumbent will have the capability to review and critically comment on 43-101 (and equivalent) to guide in decision making.

A breadth of international experience is a must as our Client is open to a variety of opportunities in geological terranes throughout the world requiring someone with the technical understanding to advance the file but also the street smarts to see to it they are able to look after themselves in far off places.

The Incumbent will be responsible for identifying advanced projects within private and public metals and mining companies across all commodities that meet our Clients’ criteria. Position presents an opportunity to contribute to the growth of a dynamic investment portfolio within one of the most prominent asset management firms in the industry.

This outstanding opportunity would ideally suit a commercially oriented professional wishing to leverage their strong mining industry background and pursue a career in mining finance.

Qualifications:

• • 10-13 years of international exploration experience with a strong focus on gold, having worked in both the major and junior realm.
  • High-level communication skills to work closely with the management of listed issuers, team members and fund LPs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, with the ideal applicant being a registered Professional Geologist in good standing.
  • High-level capabilities of block modelling
  • Background in business development/project generation

Given the requirements, the Incumbent must be willing to travel and participate in every major pre-loan due diligence site visit and the majority of subsequent physical inspections during the term of the loan.
